Beginning October 1, 2019 I am pleased to be able to offer teletherapy as an option for residents throughout North Carolina.
Your time is valuable. You’ve got so much going on, I understand it is not always easy to drop everything to get away for an appointment. Now making yourself a priority just got a whole lot easier. You can enjoy the benefits of teletherapy with the convenience of being at home, your office, or while traveling within the great state of North Carolina.
What is teletherapy?
Telehealth or telemedicine involves using electronic, interactive video, or data communications to deliver services to an individual when he/she is located at a different site than the provider.
Teletherapy (e-therapy or online therapy) involves the practice of psychotherapy delivery, diagnosis, consultation, treatment, transfer of medical data, and education using interactive, synchronous audio/video communications.
Who would benefit from teletherapy?
Busy schedules, poor weather, transportation concerns, limited mobility, and desire to be in the comfort of your own space can be barriers to going to an office for therapy. Teletherapy is an ideal way to get the treatment you need. Most clients and concerns can benefit from teletherapy, although it is not advised for clients who are suicidal, highly dissociative, or have other severe mental illnesses.**
Is teletherapy as good as face to face treatment?
Research has shown that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy provided the client is appropriate for the service and the client and therapist are able to build a strong connection.
How does it work?
Through a link on my client portal we will meet via a secure HIPAA compliant video platform where we can see and hear each other. No downloading required! You can use a laptop, tablet, or phone, anything that connects to the internet and has a camera and microphone. Easy!
Is Teletherapy Secure and Confidential?
I use a HIPAA-compliant, secure platform that protects your privacy and confidentiality. You will be responsible to ensure that your location provides you with the privacy and confidentiality you desire.
Does insurance cover teletherapy?
During the COVID-19 crisis, the majority of insurance companies and EAPs now cover teletherapy sessions.
More and more insurance providers are realizing the benefit of teletherapy. If you are interested in working with me via this platform I will attempt to verify your insurance benefits for teletherapy before we begin. Ultimately you will be responsible for ensuring teletherapy is covered by your insurance plan.
