Hi, my name is Barbra Rogoff and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both North Carolina and Virginia. I am also a Certified Tele Mental Health Provider.
After working as a legal assistant and volunteering in my spare time for many years I realized my true passion lay in helping people. So I returned to school in the evenings and, after 17 years as a legal assistant, I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
Before opening my private practice I worked in a variety of settings, including counseling centers, psychiatric hospitals, non-profit organizations, and client homes. These experiences provided me with the opportunity to work with a wide variety of people, issues, and diagnoses which, over time, taught me how to personalize therapy so that it is unique to each client and their circumstances.
I work to build a strong relationship with each client, one that promotes trust, awareness, and understanding. To that end I see counseling as a collaborative effort in which we are equal partners. This allows counseling to become a two-way process, a back-and-forth in which we talk with each other rather than at each other. This conversational style also provides you with the freedom to tell your story in your own language, without any expectations or judgments; and me the opportunity to share my thoughts, questions, and observations simply as food for thought.
Although I utilize many theories and techniques depending upon my clients’ needs, my approach is primarily based on the belief that it is how and what we think that determine our beliefs, feelings, and actions. Therefore, if we can identify and learn to change our ineffective thinking patterns, we can ultimately change our lives. This belief is grounded in the Cognitive Theories, most notably Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy.
By utilizing complementary therapy approaches and techniques we can work together to uncover and change the thinking and behavior patterns that may be holding you back from experiencing a more rewarding and meaningful life. My goal is to help you discover your true self so you may lead a life that is most fulfilling for you.
On a more personal note, I’ve lived in the Triangle area since 2016 and have been visiting family in North Carolina for over 20 years. Prior to moving to North Carolina I have had the opportunity to live in many places throughout the United States, including New York State, New Jersey, Indiana, Texas, and Washington. I even lived in Singapore for a brief time in my mid-twenties. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, home DIY projects, and playing with my rescue puppy Sheyna.
