I am pleased to be able to offer teletherapy as an option for residents throughout North Carolina and Virginia.
You’ve got so much going on and trying to get to one more appointment seems impossible. I understand it’s not always easy to drop everything and get away; with teletherapy making yourself a priority just got a whole lot easier. You can enjoy the benefits of therapy wherever you are, be it at home, your office, in your car, or anywhere within the States of North Carolina or Virginia.
What is teletherapy?
Telehealth or telemedicine involves using electronic, interactive video, or data communications to deliver services to an individual when he/she is located at a different site than the provider.
Teletherapy (e-therapy or online therapy) involves the practice of psychotherapy delivery, diagnosis, consultation, treatment, transfer of medical data, and education using interactive, synchronous audio/video communications.
Who would benefit from teletherapy?
Most clients and concerns would benefit from teletherapy. Busy schedules, transportation concerns, limited mobility, or a desire to be in the comfort of your own space are only a few of the reasons someone might find getting to an office for therapy difficult . Teletherapy is an ideal way to get the treatment you need without the hassle of going to an office. (Teletherapy is not advised for clients who are suicidal, highly dissociative, or have other severe mental illnesses.**)
Is teletherapy as good as face to face treatment?
Research has shown that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy provided the client is appropriate for the service and the client and therapist are able to build a strong connection. It may take a few sessions to adjust to talking to a screen, after that most clients find they forget we’re not in person.
How does it work?
You will receive an email confirmation of our appointment with a link to our session, there will also be a link on my client portal. Simply click on the link at the time of your appointment and we will meet via a secure HIPAA compliant video platform where we can see and hear each other. No downloading required! You can use a laptop, tablet, or phone, anything that connects to the internet and has a camera and microphone. Easy!
Is Teletherapy Secure and Confidential?
I use a HIPAA compliant, secure platform that protects your privacy and confidentiality. You are responsible for insuring that your location provides you with the privacy and confidentiality you desire.
Does insurance cover teletherapy?
Currently, in response to Covid 19, the majority of insurance companies and EAPs are covering teletherapy sessions.
More and more insurance providers are acknowledging the benefit of teletherapy and covering teletherapy sessions. If you are interested in using insurance please let me know before we meet, I will attempt to determine if your insurance plan covers teletherapy when I verify your insurance coverage. Ultimately, you will be responsible for ensuring teletherapy is covered by your insurance plan.
If you have any additional questions regarding Teletherapy, please let me know.
