Hi, my name is Barbra Rogoff and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Psychotherapist, in North Carolina and Virginia and I am registered to provided teletherapy in South Carolina. You can find documentation regarding my professional credentials here.
After working as a legal assistant and volunteering for many years I realized my true passion lay in helping people. So, after 17 years as a legal assistant, I returned to school and received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
Before opening my private practice I worked in a variety of settings. These included counseling centers, psychiatric hospitals, non-profit organizations, and client homes. My experiences provided me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of people, issues, and diagnoses and taught me to personalize therapy so that it is unique to each individual client and their circumstances.
My Psychotherapy Practice
I work to build a strong relationship with each client, one that promotes trust, awareness, and understanding. To that end, I see counseling as a collaborative effort. One in which we are partners, without expectations or judgments, who talk with each other not at each other.
Although I utilize many theories and techniques, my approach is primarily based on the beliefs that you are a unique and capable individual and how and what you think impacts your core beliefs, feelings, and actions. These beliefs are grounded in the Cognitive Theories, most notably Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and the Humanistic Theories.
By utilizing complementary therapy approaches and techniques we can work together to uncover your strengths and change the patterns and beliefs holding you back from experiencing a more rewarding and meaningful life. My goal is to help you discover your true self so you may lead a life that is most fulfilling for you.
Personally
On a more personal note, I’ve lived in the Triangle area since 2016 and have been visiting family in North Carolina for over 20 years. Prior to moving to North Carolina I have lived in many places throughout the United States, including: New York State, New Jersey, Indiana, Texas, and Washington. I even lived in Singapore for a brief time in my mid-twenties. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, home DIY projects, and playing with my rescue puppy Sheyna.
